How to Easily Clone a WordPress Installation for Your Autoblogs

I planned on writing about how to make money online using Autoblogs and this post will help you create copies of your Autoblogs. The reason why you need to clone your autoblog is that you will probably be using the same plugins that you have already setup for your one blog on your others.

I am assuming that you will create the new wordpress installation into a subdomain because you might want to minimize your monthly cost and Hostgator’s Shared Web Hosting Hatchling Plan, which costs as low as $4.95 a month, only allows one domain. This will not be much of a setback since you can still create many wordpress installations in your subdomains. Your blogs’ address will likely look like these:

I am only suggesting 10 to 20 clones now because, from what I heard, this is the safe number of Autoblogs that shared hosting on Hostgator can handle without any problem (I’ll talk about this on another future post).

All decent hosts will surely have a way to easily install a new WordPress blog and with Hostgator’s case, they have Fantastico Deluxe.Hostgator's Fantastico Deluxe

Here is the systematic guide that needs to do to create the new wordpress installation to your subdomain:

  • Click the Fantastico Deluxe Link
  • Select The WordPress link on the left navigation
  • Select ‘New Installation’ link on the main area
  • Now you will see the wordpress installation form and you need to fill it up
  • Input the subdomain name on the ‘Install in directory’ field (the subdomain folder should not be created first or the installation process will say this error when you try to install the blog)
  • Input the Admin username password, Admin nickname, email, blog name and blog description then click ‘Install WordPress’

To easily copy all the plugins and/or themes that you have for your original blog, you simply need to follow these simple instructions:

  • Go to your hostgator control panel and look for the File manager link
  • Now select “public_html” -> “ ” -> “wp-content” -> then select by ticking the checkbox of the “plugins” (and “themes” if you want to copy your original theme too) folder/s
  • Now select “copy” and then just change the folder name to point to the new installation. The image below “ps3″ value is an example of the new installation’s folder name

The last two steps to finish this are:

  • Go to your hostgator control panel and click the Subdomain link create the subdomain for your new blog. The folder is already created so you just need to create the subdomain so the link will look like “http://ps3.bestblog.com” and not “http://bestblog.com/ps3″
  • Finally, login to your blog, go to “Settings” -> “General”, and change the URL and that is it.

Congratulations, you have created a copy of your Autoblog.

    What about the SQL database??

You don’t need to clone the database as you will be setting up a new autoblog with different topics. The ‘New Installation’ of the wordpress will create a fresh database for you and because this will be for an autoblog, the contents will automatically be populated by your autoblog plugin.
