No Pain, No Gain

Eleven years ago, when I first started venturing out to college in Manila, I was a typical stick figure. I was often mistaken for a boy because of my pixie haircut, and my oversized jeans and shirts. Not to mention my oh-so-boyish backpack. I weighed a measly 92 lbs for my 4 feet eleven inch frame.

By the time I met Leejay, I began to, well, gain weight. What with all the free full lunches I get (I was used to eating just a pack of Cream-O or just a cup of fried rice for lunch back in high school), I was feasting almost everyday. So I went up to a healthy 110 lbs.

Eventually, things changed even more and since my two daughters were born, I am now a baby whale weighing about 152 lbs and I still still stand at 4″11′. I really have gone to seed. The funny thing is, I have never really grasped how much I have gained weight since I barely look myself up in the mirror (being there is only one mirror in the house and that one is over the sink in the bathroom). It was maybe a month or so ago that I realized that I need to get something done about this overweight business. I was having a hard time looking after Lyka. Just following her around is making me breathless, as well as lugging Kylee around, even in a sling is beginning to be a chore.

So, as a first step, my husband has enrolled me to Fitness First in Trinoma for a month. He already enrolled before me so now it’s my turn. I’ve been going for about three days as of this writing and all I’ve done yet is mainly cardio workout and a single half-hour dose of group exercise. My cardio workout consists mainly of 15 minutes on the elliptical machine and another fifteen on the threadmill. As for the group exercise, I have only tried the Les Milles BodyJam and all I can say is it’s FUN! Too bad I’m too breathless after every dance step but it is a great workout. I sweated buckets doing this exercise.

Then after all that sweating, it feels so good to sweat some more in the sauna or the steam bath located inside the lockers. It really helped me relax after a tiring workout, taking out those aches and pains that comes with exercising.

Despite all that, I have yet to lose some pounds so far. I just have to hang in here and persevere if I would want to get as close as to my old weight. XD I just hope my slacker tendencies don’t get the better of me.
