Lyka the Gweat and Tewwible, aka “A Visit to the Doctor: Part 2″

About eight months ago, Lyka first experienced playing with other children in mall operated playgrounds. She actually enjoyed playing although she had no idea how to interact with the other kids so she ended up being accidentally hurt, or, in once instance, maliciously slapped by other, er, unsupervised children. So I’m not so sure if she thinks this as proper playground decorum or something, and she’s really too young for a sit down about her behavior. Anyway, on the next visits to the playground, especially during the week I gave birth to Kylee, she was rather aggressive towards other children in terms of play. But that behavior of hers has always been confined to public play areas since. She is never aggressive towards her cousins though. And she mostly shares what she’s eating. So imagine my shock and chagrin when, after all the yelling from both Kylee and Lyka, Gemma, the clinic receptionist commented that my daughter just grabbed another child’s lollipop in addition to her own.

Now this other girl is two years Lyka’s senior, and should be about a a kilogram or two heavier. So I was, like, “huh?”, then “Oh my god! What did you do?!” From the looks of the candy, I’d say, the other girl has already started on it. I was so humiliated! I didn’t know how to apologize for my daughter. She even made the older girl cry! It was lucky for Lyka that the girl was timid enough not to retaliate. Good thing Dra Liz had a lot of lollipops to placate the girl.

I know kids would be kids but sometimes, but when they pull things like that, I can’t do anything else than shake my head in resignation. She was cute as can be, albeit rather impish in her mischief. I guess I’ll have to live through this, and teach her bit by bit about proper social decorum… if I could at all.
