calling for backup

it is not easy to be a mom, especially if you were a previous slacker like i was. but there are also a lot of funny things that come with motherhood, as well as the rewards that you would never expect to have. but of course, we could never forget the hourly frustrations that greet us with a big smile.

one of the daily frustrations i have is making my daughter drink her vitamins. she has four supplements – vitamin c, iron, multivitamins and a growth enhancer. usually she protests the daily ritual but one day she was totally unmanageable. my husband Leejay was awake and he was having his usual dose of RF Online. we were all in the upstairs room since it was starting to be a rather humid day and we were all sharing the AC. Lyka and i were on the bed and i was trying to administer her supplements. she took her vitamin c quietly enough but when it came to her mango-flavored multivitamins, she started airing her protests. and they were not mere protests – they were ear-splitting, heart-breaking, cry-me-a-river kind of protests. of course, seeing this every morning i was totally sensitized, but not her father. he immediately came to her aid, saying that i made a mistake while giving her medicine. she coughed up the last medicine i gave her. so the rest of the supplements i was still supposed to give her was forgotten till tomorrow. i was also concerned since lyka rarely coughs up any of her food or her vitamins. but it turned out to be nothing as she was back to her usual self after some time.

the next day, i was prepared to endure the tantrums that lyka will dish out as i give her her medicines. so imagine my surprise when she made just a small fuss and took in every last drop of every syrup i gave her. i was laughing and shaking my head afterwards, realizing that my daughter already has an idea about calling for backup when you don’t want to do something. when i told leejay about this, he laughed till he almost cried.

my daughter really is one heck of a baby. i just hope she stays that way.
