My Dear, Let Go of Your Raven Hair…

A few weeks before the end of last year I went and had myself a haircut. After two long years of having long tresses — and finally getting used to said tresses — I had to give in and say goodbye. The reason is not so much for fashion but for irritation. My youngest daughter Kylee sleeps beside me and it is rather disconcerting to realize that my hair falls on her face when I was asleep. So for the sake of the bebe, I had to let go of my hair. But I did request to have at least most of my hair back for sentimental reasons — it was the longest my hair ever got until now. So now, I look like a daddy with breasts (nyahahahahahahah!!!!)

Now that I think about it, why didn’t I buy a hairnet instead?

    Bows. Pigtails. Braids.

They all look good in a little girl’s hair. Also, said girl will always be praised as cute and lovely if had her hair done in such a cute way. That is IF she lets you do her hair… IF she lets you COMB her hair at all. For two years, Leejay and I have maintained Lyka’s soft dark brown curls, only allowing to cut some bangs so that her eyes wouldn’t be covered by it. She really looked cute if she let her hair get done. But unfortunately, as she got more and more active, she would rather not let anyone waste her time by tying up her hair or even by just combing it. Eventually I had to throw in the towel; there had to be a better way than getting into a noisy battle of wills after every bath time and every other time she gets her hair in a mess. We had to go to the mall.

We went out one fine day with practically one thing in mind – get Lyka a haircut. So after the usual malling business (eg. eating out, strolling, tantrum curbing), we finally got to our intended destination: Cuts 4 Tots. As the store name suggests, they are a specialty salon catering to young children. The establishment we went to is located in the third floor of Trinoma Mall and they welcomed us with smiling faces. :p Then after filling out a customer form, Lyka was placed in a modified barber’s chair: it looked like a kiddie car on a hydraulic piston. XD Anyway, then, this barber came and asked us what haircut we’d like Lyka to have. So I said I liked the layered cut and so he did it with the the speed and precision of a professional barber. Eventually, the novelty of it all bored Lyka (and besides, it was time for her nap), and she decided that enough is enough, so she started another round of tantrums. The rest of the salon staff were fast on their feet and started handing Lyka some of the toys from the shelves in the salon. It did calm her down somewhat enough for the barber to finish his job and he did a fine job on Lyka’s hair. So I think I’d give these guys another visit should the need arise. XD

Now, Lyka seems to come into her new hairstyle. Though the popular critique was that she no longer looked like a life-like doll, especially with her hair mussed, but like a true-blue carbon copy of moi. XD Well, what can I say, she is my daughter after all. And besides, now she can play whenever and however now that her play is not impeded by her long hair. So until she decides for herself that she likes long hair, I think the hairdo stays. :up
